Report: Les Miles interviews for vacant Minnesota coaching job

Les Miles

The drama surrounding the Minnesota Golden Gopher football program may have just taken another turn.

According to multiple ESPN affiliate reports, former LSU head coach Les Miles flew to the Twin Cities on Thursday to interview for Minnesota’s head coaching job.

“Former LSU football coach Les Miles was in the Twin Cities on Thursday to interview for the vacant Gophers head coaching job,” 1500ESPN in Minnesota reported on Thursday.

This would be a major get for a program that’s fallen on hard times recently. Amid allegations of sexual assault against several members of the football team, head coach Tracy Claeys was fired after just one season as the team’s head coach.

This led to former Gopher head coach Jerry Kill putting the administration in Minnesota on absolute blast recently.

“I won’t be stepping foot back in the stadium,” Kill said, via ESPN.com. “And I won’t be stepping back into the university.”

For his part, Miles was unceremoniously let go by LSU during the season. This came after he led the program back into national relevance during his 11-plus year tenure as head coach.

Western Michigan head coach P.J. Fleck, Penn State offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead and Kevin Sumlin of Texas A&M are also said to be in the mix for the head coaching job.
