Already likely to be without top wide receiver Jordy Nelson for this weekend’s playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys, the status for another Packers pass catcher appears to be up in the air.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that reserve wide receiver Geronimo Allison is facing marijuana possession charges stemming from an incident in early September when Allison was stopped for speeding on I-43 by Francis Creek, WI.
“Green Bay Packers wide receiver Geronimo Allison was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana last month after a traffic stop and subsequent arrest in early September. The district attorney’s office for Manitowoc County filed the charge on Dec. 15, 2016.”
Allison isn’t set to appear in court to face these charges until later in January. And realistically, the NFL itself usually doesn’t take action on substance abuse charges until the court has chimed in. This seems to suggest that Allison’s status for the divisional round against Dallas isn’t in question. Though, that could very well change at any time.
“The Packers are aware of the matter involving Geronimo Allison,” the team said in a statement Tuesday. “Because this is an ongoing legal matter, we will refrain from making any further comment.”
Allison, a rookie from Illinois, put up 12 receptions for 202 yards and two touchdowns during the regular season. If Nelson were to indeed miss Sunday’s playoff game, Allison would move up a tad on the depth chart and likely be asked to play a larger role.
