Brandon Marshall considers himself underpaid by the Jets

Brandon Marshall

Wide receiver Brandon Marshall and the New York Jets are coming off a disastrous 2016 season. Marshall himself put up a career-worst performance, tallying just 59 receptions for 788 yards and three touchdowns. This played a role in the Jets regressing from a 10-win 2015 campaign to the AFC East’s cellar.

Despite this, Marshall views himself as underpaid by the Jets.

No, really.

“People need to get away from my salary. I’m underpaid,” Marshall told WFAN Radio (h/t USA Today Sports) . “Any team should be happy to have me for $7.5 million.”

If we were sitting here talking about the Brandon Marshall of two seasons ago, he might be correct. After all, that version of the veteran receiver hauled in 109 catches for over 1,500 yards with a league-leading 14 touchdowns.

But at 32 years old and clearly on the back end of his career, Marshall is in no position to talk about his salary. In fact, there’s been some talk that the Jets might move on from him completely this offseason. If that’s the case, it’s hard to imagine another team doling out as much as $7.5 million for him, especially following the receiver’s drama-filled 2016 campaign.
