Chip Kelly coached 49ers following death of his father

The on-field results for the San Francisco 49ers Sunday against the Chicago Bears were about as bad as it gets. Now losers of 11 consecutive, San Francisco dropped this game by the score of 26-6 while putting up a grand total of six net passing yards.

It was a bad all-around day for the struggling football team. But it in no way compares to what head coach Chip Kelly has been going through over the past couple days.

Kelly flew from Chicago to New Hampshire Friday after learning of the death of his father. He then returned to the windy city in time to coach the team on Sunday.

When asked if he considered remaining with his family in New Hampshire, Kelly indicated that his mother wanted him to coach (via CSN Bay Area).

Even during a busy slate of Sunday football, sometimes it makes sense to take a step back and realize that those we cheer for and cricitize are also human. They have lives. They have families. They go through the same ups and downs as the rest of us.

For Kelly, Sunday afternoon may have represented a bit of an outlet at a tragic time in his life. But it’s still just a game. Life itself isn’t defined by his team’s performance on a given day. This weekend’s news only adds to that.
