Bucs C Joe Hawley claims Seahawks player spit in his face

Things apparently got a bit more heated than usual during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers game against the Seattle Seahawks. Center Joe Hawley claims he was repeatedly hitting him late and that one Seahawks defensive lineman spit right in his face at one point during the game.

Speaking on WDAE-AM 620 with Tom Krasniqi, Hawley talked about an exchange he had during the game.

“There were hitting me late and then one guy got up, and when I came up all fired up, he actually spit in my face after one of the plays,” Hawley said. “And that really got me fired up because I just don’t think that should be a part of the game at all. I mean, it’s one thing thing pushing, shouting, yelling, but as soon as he spit in my face, I was pretty fired up about that. It’s disgusting.”

Hawley wouldn’t directly out any single player but did hint it was rookie defensive tackle Jarran Reed.

The NFL needs to look into this allegation.

Not only is spitting in one’s face disgusting, as Hawley pointed out, but it’s potentially a health hazard as well. If the league does look into the matter and finds that a player did spit in Hawley’s face, then said player needs to be fined and/or suspended for his action.
