Brock Osweiler: Texans ‘very close to exploding as an offense’

Brock Osweiler

Houston Texans quarterback Brock Osweiler has been among the NFL’s worst passers in 2016, and the offense he leads has been among the league’s most anemic. Houston also has a minus-50 point differential this year, despite posting a 6-6 record.

Yet the offensive deficiencies that have plagued the Texans, thanks in large part to Osweiler’s inability to get the ball into the hands of his top playmakers, have not discouraged the quarterback.

Instead, he’s a glass-half-full kind of guy.

“I feel like we’re very close to exploding as an offense,” Osweiler said, per Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com. “We are three, four plays away from changing multiple football games. Because of that, I don’t think we can get discouraged. … We’re tired of being close. We really are, as a team. We’re all able to see it on the film. We see it on the film every single week that we’re so close to turning that corner.”

Houston has lost three straight games, averaging just 15 points per game during this stretch. On the season, they have averaged just over 17 points per game, the fourth-worst mark in the league.

Many of us would agree that the team’s offense is close to exploding, but not likely the way Osweiler sees it. Rather, in more of a dumpster fire sort of blazing inferno.

Still, staying positive amidst one’s struggles is an admirable trait, and for that we applaud Osweiler. He’s been saying all the right things this year, despite failing miserably to live up to the expectations that come with the rich contract he received from Houston this past spring.

If Houston is going to retain the lead in the AFC South, then Osweiler and the offense will need to improve. The Tennessee Titans and Indianapolis Colts are both within striking distance, and the Texans are trending the wrong way heading down the home stretch.
