Unless you have been hiding under a rock for the past year or so, you already know that the world is in the midst of a controversy of epic proportions.
It has to do with claims that Russian hackers attempted to sway the outcome of the 2016 United States Presidential election in favor of president-elect Donald Trump.
If that sounds like a plot out of a Tom Clancy novel, that’s because it could very well be. We haven’t fact-checked there.
But if this whole scenario sounds absurd to the average person, get a load of what the lawyer for former New England Patriots tight end and convicted murderer Aaron Hernandez is claiming.
“It could be a Russian hacker, with all respect, like WikiLeaks, who was able to backdoor into the system,” attorney George Leontire said, via NECN. “We don’t know.”
Leontire’s claim stems from a breach in Hernandez’s telephone conversations from jail prior to him being convicted of murdering Odin Lloyd back in 2013.
It also comes mere months before Hernandez himself is set to stand trial for the shooting deaths of two men outside a Boston nightclub.
We’re pretty sure Russian hackers have more to deal with than attempting to play a role any trial of a former NFL football player. We can turn to Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee for an opinion on that.
As it is, this conspiracy theory Hernandez’s lawyer threw out there in court likely won’t hold up in the American justice system.
“We know these phones were hacked. We still don’t know who hacked them,” Leontire said.
