Pete Carroll: Earl Thomas has 1st-degree hamstring injury, could miss a couple weeks

Earl Thomas is one of the men who could become the 2017 NFL Comeback Player of the Year

The Seattle Seahawks will likely be without safety Earl Thomas for the next couple of weeks as he recovers from a first-degree hamstring injury.

Pete Carroll broke this news Monday speaking with “Brock and Salk” on 710 ESPN Seattle.

“We’ll see what happens,” Carroll said. “Those are usually 10-14 days. We’ll see what happens.”

Thomas has never missed a start since joining the Seahawks as a rookie out of Texas in 2010. He currently has a 106-game streak going, but Carroll doesn’t think the safety will ask to play if he’s not healthy enough to do it.

“He’s smart. He’ll go if he can,” Carroll said when asked if Thomas would be lobbying to play this week given his streak. “We’ll find out. We really won’t know for all the way until the end of the week.”

The Seahawks most definitely need Thomas to be fully healthy for the playoff push. They currently have a three-game lead in the win column over the rest of the division with six games left to play.

Given the importance of Thomas in Seattle’s defensive secondary, the smart move is to let him sit out at least one game, if not two or more.
