The world of sports has been hit with another potential scandal in an area that’s becoming all to familiar — domestic violence. New York Mets pitcher Jeurys Famila has been arrested on a domestic violence charge.
“Police said in the complaint that Familia caused “bodily injury to another” and that they observed a scratch to the chest and a bruise to the right cheek of the victim, whose name was redacted in the court papers provided to The Record on Tuesday,” a report from Andrew Wyrich and Abbott Koloff of The Record said.
Northjersey.com published the entire police report.
While domestic violence issues in sports are sadly familiar, this one is a bit surprising. Familia has been featured prominently in anti-domestic violence advertising.
This is disappointing, considering Familia has been an advocate against domestic violence. pic.twitter.com/idd9QZRy6c

Per Wyrich and Koloff, the Mets have released a statement, saying that “The matter was brought to our attention and we are monitoring the situation.”
Major League Baseball added that it was “aware” and “investigating the facts.”
