Adrian Peterson ran short sprints at Vikings practice Tuesday

Adrian Peterson hopes to return to the field for the Minnesota Vikings this year, and he is taking some important steps in that direction right now.

During Tuesday’s practice, Peterson was seen running short sprints.

“The star running back, who had surgery to repair a torn meniscus in late September, was spotted running short sprints while his Vikings teammates practiced at Winter Park this morning,” writes Matt Vensel of the Star Tribune. “Head athletic trainer Eric Sugarman watched closely before the two walked inside toward the locker room.”

It’s been reported that Peterson could be able to make it back to play before the end of the season.

He had surgery on his knee early in the season to repair his meniscus. It’s a procedure that doesn’t take as long as say, an ACL repair, but it does take a while to recover from. When he was placed on IR, it was thought that he could be out “several months.”

However, as we’ve seen with Peterson in the past, he heals very quickly.

That Minnesota could use Peterson back in the lineup is an understatement of grand proportions. The Vikings rank dead last in rushing this year, and the passing game is a dink-and-dunk affair that doesn’t scare anyone — something Sam Bradford wishes he could change.

Meanwhile, Minnesota is currently on the playoff bubble and must get back on the winning track. If that doesn’t happen, perhaps the best course of action would be to keep Peterson out of action until next year when the team can regroup and shoot for a championship again.
