Report: Cowboys teammates support Dak Prescott keeping starting job

Dak Prescott

Once Tony Romo is at 100 percent, the Dallas Cowboys are going to have a decision to make. It’s a decision that could impact not only the remainder of the 2016 season, but the long term as well.

When Romo went down to a broken bone in his back during the preseason, the assumption was that he’d regain his starting job when he returned.

Now, five weeks into the regular season, that’s no longer the case. Primarily due to the excellent play of rookie fourth-round pick Dak Prescott, there’s some thought being given to riding the rookie for the remainder of the year.

It now appears that members of the Cowboys’ locker room approve of this idea.

The target date for Romo’s return is either Week 8 or Week 9 (more on that here).

Should Prescott continue to play at the historical level we have seen over the first five games, it will surely be a difficult call for Jason Garrett and Co.

Also important to note, owner Jerry Jones didn’t seem to commit to Romo as the starter when discussing the topic recently.

It definitely promises to get interesting here. Romo isn’t your run-of-the-mill starter. You simply don’t replace him on a whim, especially with injuries forcing him from the field on the first place.

On the same note, the Cowboys head into Sunday’s game with a 4-1 record and in first place in the NFC East. There’s something to be said about not fixing a good thing.
