Report: Cam Newton expected to miss Monday’s game against Buccaneers

Cam Newton

After suffering a concussion in Week 4, Cam Newton is expected to sit out Monday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer reported this news Friday morning after Newton did not participate in practice Thursday once again. Both Newton and left tackle Michael Oher are expected to miss the game.

Newton was hit hard in the head on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons on a successful two-point conversion (watch here). He was obviously out of sorts afterwards and did not return to the game.

In his stead, Derek Anderson did some good things, including going eight-for-eight on his first drive, which ended with a ridiculous one-handed touchdown catch by tight end Greg Olsen. Unfortunately, he threw two interceptions to go with his two touchdowns.

Things should be easier for Anderson and Co. this weekend, as the Buccaneers feature the second-worst scoring defense in the NFL. Monday Night Football should be a blast once again.
