Report: 49ers fear NaVorro Bowman has torn Achilles, MRI scheduled

The San Francisco 49ers may have lost their best defender and a team leader in NaVorro Bowman, who is feared to have a torn Achilles.

Bowman was having a phenomenal season for the 49ers before being carted off the field Sunday.

He wasn’t quite himself last year after taking a year off stemming from the devastating knee injury suffered against the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship game.

But another year removed from that injury saw Bowman flying around the field, making big plays for the 49ers.

Before leaving Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, Bowman had tallied eight tackles and one sack. Once he left, Dallas’ run game got going in a major way, which led to Dallas winning the game by a touchdown.

If Bowman does have a torn Achilles tendon, it would mark the second major lower-body injury in three years and could potentially give him reason to ponder retirement.

It would also be a huge blow to a 49ers team that is now 1-3 on the season.
