Dak Prescott skipped a Kanye West concert because it was past his bedtime

Dak Prescott

Dak Prescott has exceeded all expectations as a fourth-round rookie out of Mississippi state. Not only has he performed better than anyone could have imagined on the field, but he’s also making choices regarding his personal time that speak volumes about his commitment to his profession.

One such decision was shared in the cover story for the latest edition of Sports Illustrated.

Prescott was given the opportunity to receive free tickets to attend a Kanye West concert. He turned them down. That’s kind of surprising, but it’s not nearly as surprising as the reason why he turned them down.

“I wanted to go a little bit,” Prescott said of the Kanye show. “But I just think about the perception of it all. And I love my sleep.”

Pete Thamel of Sports Illustrated broke down Prescott’s reasoning a bit in his cover story.

“The 23-year-old Prescott worries like this because he treasures his reality so much. In six dizzying months he has zoomed from fourth-round pick to serendipitous starter to one of the league’s top rookies, orchestrating the second-ranked offense for the 4–1 Cowboys.”

Many young men who get thrust into the limelight like Prescott has the past couple of months would be itching to get out for a night on the town. Free passes to a Kanye concert would be a welcome diversion.

But apparently, Prescott isn’t interested in diversions. He’s all-in on this football gig, and it’s clear from his performance that his approach is paying off.

Consider that Prescott has already broken the NFL record for most attempts without an interception. He’s just seven attempts away from tying future Hall of Famer Tom Brady for most attempts without an interception to start an NFL career.

So far, Prescott has 1,239 yards on 107-of-155 passing (69 percent) with four touchdowns and no interceptions. He’s added three touchdowns on the ground.

And the best thing is that the young man never gets rattled. He has the composure of a 10-year veteran who has seen it all, except clearly, he hasn’t seen it all. He’s just getting started, which is the craziest thing about his recent success.

Prescott has a stiff test coming up this weekend with a trip to Lambeau Field to face the Green Bay Packers. If the ‘Boys win this one to go to 5-1 heading into their Week 7 bye, then Jerry Jones and Co. have a tough decision to make about who to start in Week 8 when they take on the Philadelphia Eagles.
