Report: Manti Te’o out for season with torn Achilles

Manti Te'o

San Diego Chargers inside linebacker Manti Te’o has been lost for the season after suffering an Achilles tear in Week 3.

An MRI confirmed what was assumed on Sunday. After the game, Te’o was emotional, knowing his season was likely lost. However, he remained positive about his present circumstance and his future.

Everything happens for a reason,” he said following the game, per the team’s website. “I live by a quote that says, ‘God puts mountains in front of you to show other people that it can be moved,’ and my faith is strong. I know that I will be alright. Unfortunately, I couldn’t be out there with my brothers and playing, and that is the thing that hurts the most. It was a big year for me, and I worked extremely hard and there is nothing that you can do now. Just look forward, move forward and keep going.”

Best known for being the victim of an infamous catfishing scandal that significant influenced his pre-draft process, Te’o had settled in nicely with the Chargers after putting that entire mess behind him.

The past four years, Te’o has started 34 games for San Diego. He started all three games this year, tallying 17 tackles.
