Jared Goff currently third string on Rams depth chart

The Rams won't consider Tony Romo, just a year after trading up for Jared Goff

Los Angeles Rams rookie quarterback Jared Goff wasn’t terribly impressive during his first go-around of preseason action.

The No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft ended the preseason having completed less than 50 percent of his passes with two touchdowns, two interceptions and an absurd three fumbles.

It was so bad for Goff that any thought being given to him competing with Case Keenum was thrown out the window early in the summer.

Now, just over a week until the start of the regular season, and Goff isn’t even second on the Rams’ depth chart.

Struggles for rookie quarterbacks. That’s to be expected. And in reality, no one should be overly concerned.

But given the bounty Los Angeles yielded to move up to the first pick to select Goff, one would hope that he’d show better during the preseason.

It’s rather apparent that this didn’t happen.

Whether that means Goff will find himself benched for the duration of his rookie season remains to be seen.

What we do know is that he’s simply not ready to make an impact on the field. That in and of itself should concern fans in Southern California.
