Report: Adrian Peterson weighing surgery, could miss four weeks or four months

Adrian Peterson

As Adrian Peterson weighs his options following a torn meniscus diagnosis, the question now centers around what type of treatment will be administered.

Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports reports the Minnesota Vikings and Peterson are weighing their options on surgical repair.

This is no light decision. The Vikings believe they have a championship window right now. That’s the reason the franchise gave up first- and fourth-round picks to land quarterback Sam Bradford when Teddy Bridgewater was lost for the season.

If Peterson opts to go with a full repair (assuming surgery is the way he goes to begin with), then he might be able to play more seasons. But at the age of 31, he might be more inclined to take the risky partial repair with the hope of contributing to a potential Super Bowl run.

When he first suffered the injury, it sure looked like he was going to miss the season. He couldn’t put any weight on his leg and was obviously in a ton of pain.

Since then, however, his status has improved somewhat, and Mike Zimmer would not completely rule him out for Week 3.

It’s going to be interesting to see how things play out.
