Joey Bosa’s mom wishes ‘we had pulled an Eli Manning’

One week into a rookie holdout, Joey Bosa’s mom has finally had enough of the ridiculous standoff between her son and the San Diego Chargers.

“It bums me out for him so much,” she wrote to a friend on Facebook (verified as her by Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune). “Wish we pulled an Eli Manning on draft day.”

For those who may not remember or are unaware, the Manning family, led by former NFL quarterback Archie Manning, would not allow his son Eli to play for the Chargers. They made it known to the point where the Chargers traded Manning to the New York Giants on draft day in exchange for fellow draft pick Philip Rivers and two other picks.

Even back then, San Diego was known as one of the more difficult franchises to work with, and the most dysfunctional.

Fast forward 12 years and Bosa’s mom, Cheryl, is wishing her family had enough foresight to have made the same stand.

The Chargers are being rather stubborn about their demands on the contract negotiations. They are refusing to give Bosa his full bonus this year and are staunchly refusing to budge when it comes to offset language (more about that here).

Of course, it could be argued Bosa is being just as stubborn, but it’s hard to blame him for not wanting to be bullied. The latest on this saga is that the two sides have not spoken in 10 days or exchanged new proposals during that time.
