Jeff Fisher: Jared Goff ‘quite likely’ to take first-string snaps against Chiefs

The Rams won't consider Tony Romo, just a year after trading up for Jared Goff

Jared Goff’s much anticipated NFL debut went less than swimmingly on Saturday night against the Dallas Cowboys. He was knocked around and played just two series before being pulled for precautionary reasons after suffering a minor shoulder injury.

Los Angeles Rams fans eager to see what they have in Goff should get to see more of him this upcoming week when the team hosts the Kansas City Chiefs.

Head coach Jeff Fisher said Monday that Goff will “quite likely” take first-string snaps on Saturday at home, per Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times.

Fisher also provided an update on Goff’s dinged up shoulder (non-throwing arm).

“He’ll be fine,” Fisher said during a news conference at UC Irvine. “We have no concerns whatsoever. He’s just a little banged up and sore.”

Goff has reason to feel sore. He was absolutely hammered a couple of times, enduring one sack and getting hit hard on the play in which he threw an interception.

He finished with just 38 yards on four-of-nine passing with the interception, but it wasn’t all bad for the rookie. He showed a willingness to push the ball downfield and drove the ball well when he did have time to throw.

“I have a whole career ahead of me to play,” said Goff, “and this preseason, hopefully, I can continue to play at a high level.”

It sounds like he’ll get more of a chance to showcase his abilities this weekend. We can’t wait to see if he pushes starter Case Keenum for the job before the Rams head to face the San Francisco 49ers in the Week 1 opener on Monday, Sept. 12.
