Report: Geno Smith snubbing media for writing about one-year IK KO anniversary

It just hasn’t been a great year for New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith, who is now reportedly snubbing the New York media for childish reasons.

This has really been Smith’s modus operandi since entering the NFL. Viewed by some even before the draft in 2014 as a diva, it seems that’s how he was perceived in New York’s locker room last summer as well.

After IK Enemkpali broke his jaw in a dispute over money, rumors emerged that Smith’s teammates weren’t exactly on his side of the argument. Smith apparently was poking his finger into Enemkpali’s chest before getting clocked.

“That’ll get a man hit every time, especially one that hasn’t earned respect,” a source said, per Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

The broken jaw Smith suffered allowed Ryan Fitzpatrick to land the starting job last year, which he never relinquished.

Then the veteran’s much publicized contract dispute with the Jets opened the door for Smith to get back into the swing of things and potentially get his starting job back.

Even though he claimed he had grown since the IK KO, Smith proved he still harbored plenty of immaturity. When asked about Fitzpatrick during the offseason, he got salty with reporters and would not respond to the line of questioning.

“That’s up to the front office and Ryan Fitzpatrick,” he replied, via Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. “Why would I speak on that?”

Then when Fitzpatrick finally did return to the team, Smith made it known he was “kind of pissed” about the development.

Now, it’s worth pointing out that Smith has plenty of reasons to feel frustrated, given the events that have passed this past year. That said, he continues to show he doesn’t have a clue how to deal with the spotlight of being a quarterback in New York.

This latest display of immaturity is proof he may not ever get it.
