Hyun-Jin Ryu has thrown only 4.2 innings this season for the Los Angeles Dodgers. According to manager Dave Roberts, that will be it.

This is another step in the wrong direction for a pitcher who once looked like one of baseball’s most promising.
Ryu was one of baseball’s best pitchers over the 2013 and 2014 seasons. In that time, Ryu started 56 games and threw 344 innings. Over that period, he posted a 3.17 ERA, 1.198 WHIP, 293 strikeouts, and a strong 2.97 WHIP.
Since then, however, his career has gone backwards. His incredibly abbreviated 2016 season follows a completely lost 2015 campaign for the Dodgers’ southpaw.
The only good news for Ryu at this point is that he’s still relatively young. He’ll be only 30 come opening day of the 2017 season. Additionally, his arm hasn’t thrown a lot of innings. Between his career in the United States and Korea, Ryu has topped the 200 inning mark in a season only twice.
