The Dallas Cowboys find themselves in a desperate situation at the quarterback position. Following the terrible news that top backup Kellen Moore broke his ankle earlier this week, the team has been relentlessly searching for a veteran arm behind Tony Romo.
Now that Nick Foles has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, it appears that Dallas is turning its attention to another veteran with starter experience.

Adding Josh McCown is a bit more tricky than one would think. He’s under contract with the Cleveland Browns and is expected to be Robert Griffin III’s primary backup this season. In this, it doesn’t look like Cleveland would simply be willing to release the 37-year-old veteran.
Though, Dallas itself is reluctant to trade for the quarterback — a move that would cost it $5 million against the cap in 2016.
McCown started eight games for the Browns last season and played at a reasonably high level. He threw 12 touchdowns compared to four interceptions while completing nearly 64 percent of his passes in the process.
Adding him to the mix would be a major upgrade over what Dallas currently has on the roster. As of right now, rookie Dak Prescott would be Romo’s primary back. That’s a situation that could prove to be disastrous if the team were to go into the season with the depth chart unchanged.
Last season saw the Cowboys post a 3-1 record in the four games that Romo started. They were 1-11 in the other 12 games. Needless to say, adding a quality backup is the team’s primary focus here.
