Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter doesn’t usually mince words, and he stayed in character when asked about Tim Tebow on Wednesday.

As you are likely aware by now, Tebow has expressed interest in pursuing a professional baseball career now that his NFL dream appears to be dead. When asked about this latest Tebow news, Showalter, after first expressing no desire to talk about it, launched into quite the epic mini-rant.

He made an excellent point about all the young kids growing up in the Dominican Republic and players toiling in the minor leagues who pour their entire lives into pursuing their MLB dreams. He also said, “somebody will sell some tickets in the spring…I should be careful. We may sign him.”

Tebow last played organized baseball in high school, which prompted Showalter to quip, “I bet he was a good player in high school. I was too. And I played quarterback…I’ll stop.”

Preceding his manager’s comments, Adam Jones tweeted out a similar message on Tuesday.

Regardless of your opinion on Tebow’s expressed interest in pro baseball, it should be entertaining to see what he can do.

That he’s athletically gifted isn’t even a question, but playing baseball isn’t exactly like riding a bike. This isn’t going to be something that he can just hop right into and perform at a pro level — if he ever gets there at all.

Tebow would be lucky to rise to Michael Jordan levels of competence in his latest endeavor. All the same, we wish him well and look forward to seeing what he can do.
