Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Jung Ho Kang is being investigated by Chicago police for an alleged sexual assault, per the Chicago Tribune.

The incident in question allegedly occurred when the Pirates were in town last month to face the Chicago Cubs, a police spokesperson said, per the report.

The Pirates are aware of the investigation and released a statement to address the matter.

“We have been made aware of the allegation that has been made against Jung Ho Kang,” Pirates President Frank Coonelly said in a statement in response to questions from the Tribune about the sexual assault investigation. “We take allegations of this type extremely seriously,” he said.

Coonelly could not further comment and made it clear nobody in the organization would be commenting on the matter until the ongoing police investigation has concluded.

At this time, Kang has not been charged with any crime, per the report. At this time, his standing with the Pirates remains unchanged.
