Big Rich says Durant never appreciated what he had in Oklahoma City. That he has no heart. That he has no balls.
Likely, this sentiment is shared by many upset Oklahoma City Thunder fans who feel like Durant abandoned them. Likely, there are plenty of mixed emotions going around. Likely, the fans of Oklahoma City will be feeling the rumblings of Durant’s decision for a long time.
Already, there are reports that the Thunder will try to extend Russell Westbrook to a long-term deal. He’s not likely to be interested in this, given the fact that the NBA’s salary cap will rise again next year. If they can’t work out a deal, they will reportedly be open to trade offers for the talented guard.
Durant was the franchise.
Now he’s gone.
It’s going to sting for a while. But let’s not slink to character assassination, folks. This is a man who sees an opportunity of a lifetime in front of him, and he’s taking the leap. We’d all be so lucky to have that chance.
