O.J. Mayo banned from NBA for violation of drug policy

Milwaukee Bucks guard O.J. Mayo has been disqualified and dismissed from playing in the NBA after violating the Association’s drug policy, per Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated, and others.

Now 28 years old, this would put him at 30 when he could try to come back.

Originally drafted No. 3 overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2008, Mayo’s playing career can only be viewed as a disappointment. In fact, his best year came as a rookie with the Memphis Grizzlies after being traded for Kevin Love. Since then, Mayo has generally seen his numbers decline, with his worst year as a pro coming this past season with the Bucks.

Throughout his career, Mayo has averaged 13.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists and one steal per game.

Mayo was also suspended for 10 games in 2011 for testing positive for performance enhancing drugs.
