While serving his one-year NFL suspension, Oakland Raiders pass rusher Aldon Smith will reportedly be arraigned on Friday for violating the terms of his probation.

“The Raiders edge rusher will argue a motion to suppress evidence relating to misdemeanor charges of DUI with a prior conviction, hit and run and vandalism from an Aug. 2015 incident that prompted his release from the 49ers,” CSN Bay Area reports. “According to a Santa Clara County criminal case index, Smith will also be arraigned on a violation of probation from a prior conviction. It’s uncertain what incident the charge stems from.”

His arrest last August was a grave disappointment to the San Francisco 49ers organization, which had made tremendous efforts to help him stay on a straight path. Despite his spectacular abilities on the football field the San Francisco 49ers were forced to let him go.

The Raiders have staunchly stood behind Smith after the NFL suspended him for the above-mentioned charges, but at this point one wonders if he isn’t on an extremely short leash.

One of the most talented pass rushers of his generation, Smith piled up 42 sacks in his first 43 NFL games.
