Report: Giants ‘still have interest’ in Eugene Monroe

Former Baltimore Ravens offensive lineman and medical marijuana advocate Eugene Monroe may be getting back into the NFL. The New York Giants are looking for offensive line depth and are reportedly interested in Monroe.

“This is the position most likely to add a player who may contribute before the season starts,” per Jordan Raanan of NJ.com. “The Giants still have interest in former Ravens left tackle Eugene Monroe after an offseason where they tried to find a potential replacement for right tackle Marshall Newhouse, but came up empty.”

The biggest sticking point might be that Monroe wants to play left tackle, while New York would be looking for him to play on the right side, per Raanan.

Getting back to the NFL could help Monroe continue his advocacy for medical marijuana. Signing with the Giants would be even better for his cause. With the New York media, Monroe would have plenty of chances to get his message out and heard across the country.

Possibly because of his outspoken stance, Monroe was released by the Ravens earlier in June.

From a football perspective, this makes sense. The Giants need to replace Newhouse, and the options aren’t exactly vast at this point. Monroe has dealt with injuries throughout his career, but he has generally been a capable starter wherever he’s gone. He started all six games in which he played in 2015.
