Maybe impaired vision was all that was to blame for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s struggles with accuracy last season.
According to a report by Matt Barrows of The Sacramento Bee Kaepernick got contacts to improve his short-distance vision. He will also wear a tinted visor if it is medically approved by the NFL.
“For me, it was something I need to protect my eyes. Been doing a lot of things to make sure my vision’s correct. So the visor’s been there to help with that.”
Thankfully, Kap is taking every measure possible to better himself in order to win the upcoming training camp competition with Blaine Gabbert for the 49ers starting job. He has since resumed throwing after undergoing minor surgeries resulting from thumb, shoulder and knee injuries.
Kaepernick was relieved of his quarterback duties after starting in eight games last season. The 49ers lost six of those games when over this stretch of time Kap threw only six touchdowns compared to five interceptions.
His struggles in connecting with wide-open receivers were painfully obvious (watch here).
Perhaps this summer things will improve for the embattled quarterback, starting with him being able to see better. The fact that Kap has finally broken his silence and has accepted his role (whatever that may be) with the team is refreshing as well.
“At this point everything is football, I’m a 49er and excited to work with Chip and his coaching staff. I’m excited about what’s to come, Kaepernick said, via Michael Wagaman of ESPN.”
Whether it’s Kap or Gabbert earning the starting job in the upcoming months, the main goal for the 49ers will be to win more than the five games they did last season.
