Report: Knicks pondering trade for Derrick Rose

The New York Knicks must make a big splash to compete in the Eastern Conference, so it’s not surprising to hear the franchise is considering a trade for Derrick Rose.

Ian Begley of ESPN New York is reporting the Knicks have had internal discussions about making a deal with the Chicago Bulls for the point guard.

As he mentioned, it is not yet known if the Bulls are interested in parting with the point guard. Still, common sense dictates they would be foolish to ignore a serious trade, though. On that note, we’ve suggested five potential trade destinations where he’d be a good fit. New York was not on our radar.

What would be the biggest sticking point for Chicago is how much it would get in return. Rose has been extremely injury prone throughout his tenure in Chicago. Dating back to the 2011-12 NBA season, he has missed 247 games due to injury, including the entire 2012-13 season.

Still, when healthy Rose is a dynamic guard who makes his living penetrating and dishing to teammates. For his career, he has averaged 19.7 points, 6.2 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game, though his numbers have significantly diminished the past three seasons.

If the Bulls do make a deal to ship Rose to New York, the Knicks would feature a nice trio of talent, as he’d join Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis. Theoretically, they could make some noise in the east, but that’s if Rose were to stay healthy — far from a given.
