Stephen Curry donates car he received for MVP award to charity

Stephen Curry had some special company with him during Tuesday’s NBA MVP ceremony in Oakland, Calif.

The repeat champ gave the keys to his brand new 2017 Kia Sorrento to Covenant House, on hand for the event, which is a local charity that helps homeless youth get on their feet, KTVU Fox 2 in Oakland reports.

“The Warriors have done a great job of reaching out to Covenant House all year long. This is kind of like the cherry on top of what basketball can bring to the community,” said Curry.

The vehicle will be utilized to help modernize a fleet of 100,000-plus mile vans that can cause some of the teens the program helps to feel “stigmatized” for getting the help they so desperately need.

“I was shocked.  I was surprised.  I think it’s awesome that he’s doing something for this organization,” said Maryah Pardini, an 18-year old who recently found shelter with Covenant House.

This isn’t the first time Curry has done this, either. He donated an SUV after winning the MVP last year as well, giving a 2016 Kia Sorrento to the East Oakland Youth Development Center. No doubt he’ll do it a third time if he manages to win the award again next season.
