Rory McIlroy donates Irish Open winnings to charity

After winning his first Irish Open, Rory McIlroy donated his winnings to his charity, the Rory McIlroy Foundation.

The winner’s check was for 666,000 euros, which works out to nearly $750,000, and it’s all going to the foundation, which helps children and their families, per the foundation’s official website:

“This is what we do and what we stand for. It will be at the very core of every project we work with and every programme of change we are part of. The Rory Foundation is a nonprofit charitable trust with the ambition to have a positive impact on children’s and their families’ lives. Our goal is to release funds that seek to advance opportunity and lasting change for children who are suffering from ill health or who are unfairly disadvantaged or vulnerable to life’s circumstances. Our underlying values are ambition, passion and drive. These values lie at the heart of our foundation and will help us instigate real change for children in every country in which we work.”

The three-shot victory was capped off by one of the most brilliant shots you’ll see this year — a 252-yard bullet to within feet of the pin on the 18th hole.

It was also McIlroy’s first win of the season, and it came in front of his home fans in Ireland.

Well done all around by the young man.
