Report: Jalen Ramsey to be ready for training camp after surgery

Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey shouldn’t miss training camp following successful surgery to repair a torn meniscus, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

This is great news for the Jags, and for their first-round draft pick.

The initial diagnosis was that Ramsey’s torn meniscus was of a minor nature, and this post-surgery report indicates that was correct. The best part is that not only will he be ready for Week 1 but that he’ll likely be able to participate in the valuable training camp repetitions needed to have the greatest impact for the Jaguars as a rookie out of the gates.

Ramsey was widely considered one of the top players — if not the top — by many NFL personnel evaluators. The Jaguars felt lucky that he landed in their laps at No. 4 overall after the San Diego Chargers selected Joey Bosa at No. 3.

With Ramsey, pass rusher Dante Fowler (returning from a season-ending knee injury suffered as a rookie) and linebacker Myles Jack, Jacksonville’s defense is suddenly looking like a unit to be feared after years of ineptitude. For his part, Jack could not believe the rest of the NFL let himself and Ramsey land on the same squad. In his mind, that’s just not fair.

Time will tell soon enough if this dynamic trio of players will make the kind of impact they have been projected to make. If the young studs to pan out, then the Jags will be a force to be reckoned with in the AFC for a long, long time.
