The Dallas Cowboys have the fourth pick in the draft, and via Clarence Hill of the Star-Telegram we now know that team owner Jerry Jones has every intention on keeping the pick.

That’s not terribly surprising, as Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network said on Sunday that trade talks surrounding the No. 3 and No. 4 picks have “cooled considerably.”
Now, we can pretty safely say that the Cowboys will pick at No. 4, but who they will pick remains a great mystery. Jones also said that the team will take the best player available and that need will not be a concern.
Hill’s implication was also that the debate was between two Ohio State stars, running back Ezekiel Elliott and defensive end Joey Bosa. The owner also added that they “don’t have to take a running back” while his son and team CEO Stephen Jones said the same thing about defensive end.
So, we know nothing, which is about par for the course when it comes to the Cowboys.
The best pick here is Bosa. No, he’s not a sure thing, as Bosa brings some concerns both on and off the field. But he’s a talented pass rusher. Those have infinitely more value than running backs, who can generally be found later in the draft. Bosa should be the higher ranked player on anyone’s board.
While they may not be bowing to the draft god of need, let’s go down that road anyway. Bosa fits the “need” description much better anyway, as Dallas ranked only 25th in sacks during the 2015 season. Conversely, their rushing attack was not terrible, as they were ninth in yards per carry.
So, we may not know what Jerry Jones and the Cowboys will do, but what they should do is pretty clear.
