James Harden sets NBA record for turnovers in season

James Harden turned the ball over four times on Sunday when the Houston Rockets beat the Los Angeles Lakers, 130-110. This brought his season total up to 370, meaning Harden now has been responsible for more turnovers (by four) this year than any other player in the history of the Association.

This isn’t the kind of record young boys dream about setting when they’re on their beds tossing a ball into the air countless times as they think about what they will do when they make it to the NBA.

This is the kind of record coaches abhor and players hope never to come close to touching.

Turnovers equal bad. Turnovers lose games. The Rockets have lost 41 already this season with two more games left to play and are one game behind the Utah Jazz for the final playoff spot in the west.

One wonders if they’d even be worried about making into the postseason if Harden paid more attention to how he takes care of the ball.

At least he’s nowhere close to the ABA record of 422 turnovers in a season, set by George McGinnis back in the 1974-75 season. Even by Harden’s standards, that’s an unattainable record with just two more games on the schedule.

Well, at least he plays defense to make up for his careless handles, right?
