If only every profession paid you millions of dollars for being mediocre at your job. That has been the case for Los Angeles Rams head coach Jeff Fisher, who has posted a 27-36-1 record in his four seasons with the team.
Some figured Fisher would be on the outs after the then St. Louis Rams won the bid to move to Los Angeles last month.
That obviously wasn’t the case.
Now fully prepared to move to the future with Fisher as the team’s head coach, the Rams are reportedly engaged in discussions regarding a contract extension for the veteran head man:

One has to wonder exactly where this is coming from.
The Rams have yet to post a winning record with Fisher at the helm. In fact, Fisher himself hasn’t led a team to an above .500 record since he was coaching Vince Young and Chris Johnson with the Tennessee Titans back in 2008.
In the six seasons that have followed (two with the Titans, and four with the Rams), Fisher boasts a combined 41-54-1 record. Yes, that’s a pedestrian .427 winning percentage in a league that tends to provide head coaches with quick hooks.
Overseeing a Rams team that put up the fourth-fewest points in the NFL this past season, Fisher did just enough to keep his squad out of the basement for what would have been the third consecutive season.
In fact, Los Angeles has yet to finish better than third in any of Fisher’s four seasons as the team’s head coach.
Despite all the evidence that he’s not the one to lead this team out of mediocrity, it looks like the powers to be in Los Angeles are hellbent on giving Fisher more opportunities.
That has to be music to the ears of fans in Southern California — fans that should be celebrating the return of NFL football after a 20-year hiatus.
Let’s just hope they are rewarded with a better product than we have seen thus far in Fisher’s tenure.
