Joe Thomas acknowledges he may leave Cleveland Browns

Joe Thomas blasted United Airlines

Changes are almost certain to come with the Cleveland Browns. Head coach Mike Pettine and general manager Ray Farmer are likely on their way out of town, and based on his own words star tackle Joe Thomas might be leaving as well.

Thomas also said that he wants Pettine to return as the coach, and since that appears highly unlikely, it’s possible that Thomas might just want out of Cleveland.

Thomas represents a $9.5 million hit to the Browns’ salary cap. That’s a huge commitment for any team, but certainly a huge ask for a disgruntled player on a team with a new coach and a different front office.

If Joe Thomas does ask for his release or trade and hits the market, he’ll be one of the most desired players on the market. He still ranks as one of the game’s best left tackles.

Teams like the San Francisco 49ers and Tennessee Titans could definitely use an upgrade to the offensive line, but plenty of contenders need help, too. The Seattle Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs have allowed more sacks than anyone except the 49ers, Titans and Thomas’ Browns. Another sensible fit for Thomas would be a return to his home state of Wisconsin and the Green Bay Packers.
