If Peyton Manning decides to hand up the cleats following the 2015 NFL season, he could have a cushy job as a team executive with the Tennessee Titans waiting for him.

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, there is “persistent chatter in NFL circles” that Manning could be headed to Tennessee in 2016 to join former boss Bill Polian in the front office for the Titans. There is a job opening up, with interim president Steve Underwood’s contract expiring at the end of the year, and La Canfora reports ownership’s interest in Manning is well known.

Manning is a legend in Tennessee, where he played during his college years for the Volunteers. He strongly considered signing with the Titans instead of the Denver Broncos a few years ago when he was a free agent and has strong ties to the region.

A combination of Manning as a “football czar,” Polian as team president, Polian’s son Chris as general manager and either Doug Marrone or Adam Gase as head coach is “very probable in 2016,” per La Canfora.

With some of the key pieces in place, namely starting quarterback Marcus Mariota and his skilled group of receivers, along with some solid defensive players, Tennessee has the potential to develop into a perennial contender. This would certainly be an attractive alternative for Manning, should he retire from playing the game he so clearly loves.

However, he’s indicated that 2016 might not be designated for off-field pursuits. He recently told teammates he wants to play next year, but given his recent health issues and lack of production, that may not be in the cards for the future Hall of Famer.
