Ohio State DT Adolphus Washington suspended from Fiesta Bowl

Just one day after being cited for solicitation, Ohio State defensive tackle Adolphus Washington has been suspended by the school from the Fiesta Bowl against Notre Dame.

This news comes by way of Tim May, who covers the Buckeyes for the Columbus Dispatch.

Washington was cited for first-degree misdemeanor charge of solicitation on Wednesday, and his court date has been set for Dec. 17.

The defensive lineman was a big contributor to one of the nation’s top pass defenses this year, tallying 49 tackles, seven tackles for a loss and four sacks. He was named a second-team All-American for his work on the field by CBS Sports, via ElevenWarriors.com.

After his embarrassing citation, Washington released a heartfelt apology, via a press release from the school.

“I want to sincerely apologize to my family, to coach Meyer and the coaching staff, to my teammates and my friends for my lack of judgement last night and for my actions that I truly regret. I have wanted to be a high-character teammate, a contributor to the success of this program and, most importantly, someone my family can be proud of.

“I am extremely disappointed in myself, and I can honestly say I will learn from my mistake and I will accept the consequences that deservedly will come my way. And I hope that people will know that I am truly sorry and that I sincerely do apologize.”

He’ll be missed when the Buckeyes take on the Fighting Irish. The decision to suspend him from this huge game couldn’t have been easy, but it was the right move.
