Report: Johnny Manziel named Browns starting QB for rest of season

Johnny Manziel has been named starting quarterback of the Cleveland Browns for the rest of the 2015 season, according to Jay Glazer of FOXSports.

This was the only logical move to make for Cleveland, which is 2-8 without any hope of making a postseason run.

On Monday head coach Mike Pettine had said he wasn’t “prepared” to name Manziel the starter but was effusive in his praise for the second-year quarterback for the first time all season long.

He showed significant progress. …Kind of given what he’s gone through, you’re just proud of the kid and happy for him. I just wish we had a better result from a team standpoint because he played his ass off,” Pettine said, per Ohio.com.

Despite the Browns losing 30-9 to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Manziel had a big game, passing for 372 yards and a touchdown, completing 73 percent of his passes in defeat.

Now with half a season to prove his worth, Manziel will either show he’s capable of taking the job long term or show the franchise it needs to draft another quarterback early. For the sake of the hapless Browns and their fans, we hope he pans out.
