The Miami Dolphins are reportedly considering Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley as the head coach in 2016. Miami is currently in a transitional period with interim head coach Dan Campbell, who is filling in for recently fired Joe Philbin.
Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports the Dolphins are currently having internal discussions about a new head coach, with legendary coach Bill Parcells as a key contributor during these conversations.
Owner Stephen Ross reportedly prefers a big-name coach like Sean Payton of the New Orleans Saints (this guy’s name is an automatic in any new head-coaching vacancies), but he’s had difficulties in landing a big fish recently.
The team reportedly loves the offensive production on display the past couple of years in Pittsburgh, which makes Haley an ideal fit for the Dolphins. He does have head coaching experience with the Kansas City Chiefs and is a rising star once again.
Young quarterback Ryan Tannehill showed outstanding progress last season but has struggled at times during the tumult of the 2015 campaign. Perhaps a new voice — one with experience coaching the likes of Ben Roethilsberger — would do wonders for his development.
It certainly appears at this time that interim head coach Campbell isn’t going to be given much consideration — if any at all — for the job after the 2015 season is concluded.
