Bears rookie WR Kevin White could miss entire season with stress fracture in shin

2017 NFL Draft

Chicago Bears rookie receiver Kevin White could be out the entire 2015 NFL season with a stress fracture in his shin, the team announced on Saturday.

White has been sitting it out since training camp, but both he and the team had previously been letting on that he would be fine, despite rumors he could begin the season on the PUP list.

Now it appears White could miss the entire season after he undergoes surgery to repair the fracture.

This is a brutal development for White, who came into the league with untapped potential but little polish. Missing out on his rookie campaign won’t be good for his long-term development. Furthermore, this injury could prove a crippling blow to a franchise that already was looking at an uphill climb to improve upon its 5-11 record from last year.

At the least, with White slated to land on the PUP list to start the season, he will miss the first six games of the season. Chicago might be wise to err on the side of caution with him and keep him out all year, even if he does recover in time to eke out a few games at the tail end of the season.

Better to start fresh next offseason than risk further injury to a player the Bears hope will be a cornerstone offensive player for years to come.
