Jerry West: Stephen Curry Is Best Shooter “I’ve Ever Seen”

When the man depicted in the NBA’s logo calls a player the best “I’ve ever seen,” it would be wise to pay attention.

During an appearance on Bleacher Report Radio, Los Angeles Lakers legend Jerry West lauded Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry’s shooting skills. From B/R’s Howard Beck:

Now, West’s statement certainly isn’t a novel belief. Curry set an NBA record with 272 three-pointers during the 2013-14 season, then followed up that performance by burying 286 triples this year.

He’s expounded on those achievements by shattering Reggie Miller’s 15-year-old record of 58 trifectas in a single postseason; Heading into Game 2 of the NBA Finals, Curry has netted 75 shots from long distance.

Curry’s ability to snap off shots despite being tightly defended is fascinating to watch, and his accuracy—a career 43.8 percent three-point shooter in regular season and playoffs—separates him from most shooters in league history.

Although a handful of basketball fans were officially introduced to Curry during Golden State’s championship run this year, the Davidson product has displayed an elite shooting ability since entering the NBA.

Nevertheless, it’s been a treat to observe Curry at his best, crossing over defenders and setting up his next highlight-worthy bucket.

In fact, he’s such a good shooter, Curry doesn’t even need to watch each shot splash through the net.

Our next opportunity to watch the best shooter West believes he’s ever seen is Sunday, June 7, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
