Seahawks’ Pete Carroll on Russell Wilson: He “is Going to be With Us”

Contract negotiations between the Seattle Seahawks and fourth-year quarterback Russell Wilson have been very stagnate over the past couple of months.

While Wilson remains patient, it appears that the Seahawks are not willing offer him the deal he is seeking. He is also under contract through the 2015 season, and the Seahawks could attempt to franchise tag him in 2016. Therefore, the Seahawks aren’t necessarily in a hurry to rush to any decisions when it comes to their star signal caller.

When asked about the status of negotiations on a new deal for Wilson, head coach Pete Carroll seemed positive that the two parties would come to terms at some point (via ESPN).

It’s ongoing, but going a little slow. We’re waiting to hear from their side. Every guy’s individual case [on contract negotiations] is different. Russell has been an extraordinary player for us and for our community. We hope to get something done as soon as we can and we’re working at it.

But there are parts that are moving here. We’ve worked very hard to keep this team together and Russell is a huge part of that. He’s going to be with us and we’re excited about moving forward with him.

Reportedly, Wilson is looking for a deal somewhere to the tune of $20 million per year and $60 million guaranteed.

As the most severely underpaid quarterback in the NFL, Wilson has helped lead his team to playoffs in his three consecutive seasons, which includes two Super Bowl appearances and one championship. Does this demand a grand payday? It most certainly does.

In the meantime, if no deal is struck this season, Wilson is on course to earn $1.542 million in 2015 under his rookie deal.
