Report: New York Jets Will be “Major Player” for Darrelle Revis

By now you already know the tampering allegations against the New York Jets and owner Woody Johnson relating to New England Patriots cornerback Darrelle Revis.

Now comes this report from Bleacher Report NFL insider Jason Cole indicating that the Jets will indeed be a “major player” for Revis should the Patriots not pick up the $20 million option on his contract for the 2015 season.

Cole went on to say that Revis “really loves New York” and that he would “really consider” a reunion.

While Revis’ option calls for $20 million next season, he would count $25 million against the cap if the Patriots were to pick up his option. Regardless of his importance to the team, that might be too high of a price to pay for any non-quarterback in the National Football League.

If Revis does hit the open market, and considering his age (29), we can expect him to look for a lucrative contract. After all, this is likely his last opportunity for a long-term deal.
