Bruce Arians Named AP Coach of the Year

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians earned his second Associated Press Coach of the Year award in three seasons during the NFL Honors ceremony in Glendale, Arizona.

Arians, who took over the Cardinals head coaching job back in 2013, led the team to an 11-5 record this past regular season. Despite a ton of injuries, most notably to quarterback Carson Palmer, Arizona led the NFC West throughout a vast majority of the season prior to the NFC Champion Seattle Seahawks overtaking them late in the year.

Ultimately, Arizona ended up falling in the wild card round to the Carolina Panthers with third-stringer Ryan Lindley under center.

Arians previously earned the same award as the Indianapolis Colts “interim” head coach back in 2012. That season saw the Colts finish with an 11-5 record in Andrew Luck’s first season under center. Arians, who replaced a then ill Chuck Pagano on the sideline that season, moved on to coach the Cardinals the next year.

In two seasons with the Cardinals, Arians boasts an incredible 21-11 record.

Bill O’Brien (Houston Texans), Jason Garrett (Dallas Cowboys) and Pete Carroll (Seattle Seahawks) all drew multiple votes for the award.
