Charles Barkley Says Johnny Manziel is too Immature to Handle Fame

Hall of Fame basketball player and current television analyst Charles Barkley had some strong words for Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel, who has had his fair share of off-field stories since being selected in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft.

Barkley, who is never afraid to give his opinion, had this to say about Manziel’s off-field exploits on 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland (h/t Pro Football Talk).

Listen, he’s got to watch himself, man, because everybody’s out to get you now. Every nitwit has a cellphone,” Barkley said. “But you should never take selfies of yourself doing anything that can be considered stupid. And that’s probably the only problem I have with Johnny Manziel. Most of his pictures are selfies, and that tells me he’s just too immature to handle this fame thing right now.

Maturity is one thing that has been called into question as it relates to Manziel. Whether the young quarterback has actually participated in illegal activities since being drafted into the NFL doesn’t really matter at this point. His judgement and inability to stay out of the public eye, pretty much of his own accord, is a larger issue at this point.

With that said, Barkley may be one of the last public personalities that should be giving advice to Manziel. The former NBA player has been among the most public of figures, especially since retiring from the Association.

He has admitted to losing $10 million gambling and was arrested on DUI charges a few years back. Always a controversial figure, Barkley’s advice to Manziel should be taken with a grain of salt. And let’s be honest for a second, who among us honestly believes Barkley doesn’t party hard?
