Despite 25 Turnovers, Geno Smith Still Believes He Will Be The Jets Starter

Someone is feeling quite confident this starting day of the Jets offseason workouts, and that someone is quarterback Geno Smith.

Per nydailynews.com

In a meeting with reporters at the start of offseason workouts, Smith spoke with confidence about his place with the Jets. He said he’s watched game tape of his 25-turnover rookie season “over and over and over … as painful as it is.”

Asked if he feels like he’s still the Jets’ starter, he answered, “Yes.”

“With the experience I’ve gained,” Smith told the New York Daily News, “I feel like I’m more than capable of being the starter.”

Let’s refresh our memories, so we can be in as much pain as Smith admits.

Whether we’ve all got a throbbing headache and are running for the Advil, or laughing hysterically, at his level of confidence that he will remain the starter, Smith needs to face reality. 25 turnovers to only 12 interceptions cannot happen again.

Smith has Michael Vick breathing down his neck, also competing for starter. Reported by nfl.com, Smith shared these respectful comments regarding Vick.

“I look forward to working with him,” Smith said. “I look forward to competing with him as well. “He’s a veteran with tons of experience. … He’s played in many big games … but I look forward to learning from him.”

Yes, we’ll have to watch how things play out between Smith and Vick over the next few months, to see who comes in as Jets “top dog” in September.
