Grandson of Jerry Jones leads Highland Park to Texas state championship

Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones

The Dallas Cowboys have experienced a ton of success this season. The team seems poised to make their first Super Bowl run since 1995. Owner Jerry Jones and his family seems to have hit a streak of luck. So much luck, in fact, Jones had the pleasure of watching his grandson John Stephen Jones lead Highland Park high school to its first state championship in 11 years — in his own AT&T Stadium no less.

Jones, the son of Stephen Jones, is a junior quarterback for the Highland Park Scots. On Saturday he helped his team finish a magical 14-2 season with a historic state title for the Dallas school.

Now, call it foreshadowing if you will, but if the Cowboys win out this year their record would also stand at 14-2.

Coincidence?

Maybe. Maybe not. Regardless, it is a proud moment for the Jones family, especially with John Jones scoring the game-winning touchdown for the Scots.

Interestingly enough, the Scots hadn’t won a state title since 2005, a team that was led by now-Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford. Funny enough, Stafford now helms a team that may be one of the bigger threats to a Cowboys Super Bowl run this season.

Whether this foreshadows big things for the Cowboys remains to be seen. But for the team’s owner and his family, it is a moment they’ll never for get, with Cowboys Vice President Stephen Jones describing it as “just as good as Super Bowls back in the ’90s.”
