A’s join push to keep Raiders in Oakland

While the Raiders move to Las Vegas is seemingly inevitable, efforts remain to keep the franchise in Oakland. One such effort, called Forever Oakland, is getting help from a well-known source, the Oakland Athletics.

The A’s will have a series of games that will raise funds for Forever Oakland, whose stated goal is “securing a new stadium deal for the Raiders in Oakland, CA while Making Everything Better for Everybody.”

It is a smart move from the A’s. As an organization, they have very little to lose. Additionally, if nothing else, this will help them win good will with the fans in Oakland heartbroken over the Raiders’ pending departure.

What’s also interesting is that this seems to fly right in the face of Raiders’ management, whose commitment to Las Vegas has been pretty clear. Since the Raiders returned to Oakland in 1995, the two teams have had a tepid relationship with each other. They remain the only NFL/MLB combo to share a stadium, an arrangement which benefits neither team from a competitive point of view.

With the Golden State Warriors moving across the Bay to San Francisco and the Raiders moving to Sin City, the A’s are likely going to be Oakland’s only pro team within a matter of years.
